Cacao
Each body reacts differently to cacao. Cacao contains theobromine, an active ingredient that acts similarly to caffeine. If you already drink caffeinated drinks, you should be ok to drink cacao. If you are sensitive, a milder dose would be better.
It is not advised to have cacao if you’re taking antidepressants. Cacao contains an amino acid called tryptophan, which is the precursor to serotonin (the neurotransmitter in charge of your mood). If mixed, it can dangerously increase your serotonin levels, creating unpleasant side effects.
Cacao is generally safe to drink and not a typical allergen. It does have a significant caffeine content (though less than coffee), so bear this in mind if you are usually sensitive to caffeine.
If you’re uncertain whether or not cacao is right for you, best to check with your doctor first.
